Botox for Crows Feet

Crows feet, known scientifically as lateral canthal lines, are caused by repeated muscle contractions over a lifetime. These are the lines on the outer aspect of the eye that are made more prominent by squinting in bright light or by excessive smiling. The Crows Feet develop from around the mid twenties to the early thirties – everyone is different so you may be an early or late bloomer when it comes to the Crows Feet. While some amount of Crows Feet wrinkling is an acceptable part of normal aging, excessive wrinkling can cause a person to appear older than they actually are.

What exactly are Crows Feet Treatments

Dr Wade offers Crows Feet Botox Treatments in Somerset West, Camps Bay and Green Point, Cape Town. The Crows Feet form as a result of the Obicularis Oculi muscle contracting – this is the circular muscle that surrounds the eye sockets. These lines are known as dynamic wrinkles – as they are as a result of muscular movements – Botox only works on dynamic wrinkles. At this point in time, Botox seems to be the best treatment for Crows Feet wrinkles.

Will I end up looking frozen?

The short answer is no. As much as some people would like to have no wrinkles at all, a completely smooth and lifeless face doesn’t exactly look natural. At Natural Aesthetics our approach is to keep people looking natural – the main aim is facial rejuvenation. With facial rejuvenation it is still acceptable to have a few wrinkles when you smile. If you have no eye wrinkles when you smile then you only smile with your mouth – this is an insincere smile. We like our clients to still be able to smile with their eyes! For that reason Dr Wade only injects certain areas with low doses of Botox – this ensures that the natural look is maintained.

How long will the effect last?

Within days of the treatment you should start to see an improvement in your lines. The results can last up to 4 months, but it is necessary to bear in mind that this might vary from patient to patient. With repeated treatments, the result can last longer, so it is advised to repeat your Botox treatment every 3 to 4 months.
