Botox for Forehead Wrinkles

Forehead wrinkles form as a result of the movement of the forehead muscle known as the Frontalis muscle. This muscle is the only muscle in the upper face that elevates and lifts the eyebrows. It is for this reason that when treating this area we must be very careful so as not to over-treat the muscle. If too much of the lifting muscle is deactivated then there will be nothing to lift the eyebrows and they will droop. This is a problem as a beautiful eyebrow is one that curves and is arched – we never want to create a flat low eyebrow. Therefore when treating the forehead wrinkles we place a low dose of Botox in this area – this is usually enough to just soften the lines. For 99% of people this works. With the forehead wrinkles treatment, less is often more!

Botox in Somerset West - Before and After

Can I get a brow lift at the same time?

Dr Wade offers Forehead Wrinkles Treatments in Somerset West, Camps Bay and Green Point, Cape Town. Using Botox to lift the brows is a great way of increasing the beautiful arch that youthful faces have. In order to do this we must inject the tail of the brow with some Botox. For this to happen the Frown must also be treated as if it isn’t, there will be excessive down pulling in the frown and excessive up pulling on the tail of the brow and the result will be a very surprised face! Dr Wade will advise you as to what would look great on you. A natural looking result is always best for Forehead Wrinkles.

What if I can still move my forehead after the treatment?

Having some movement after a Botox treatment is normal – remember, we want natural results and frozen faces don’t look natural at all! That said, the rule of thumb is that is you are able to move the muscle to the point at which you create a fold or wrinkle in the skin, then you will require an additional dose of Botox. Aesthetic Medicine is both an art and a science – so estimating doses with different faces is difficult. The safest way of dealing with this problem is to inject all clients with the same dose initially and then ask them to follow in 2 weeks should they require more Botox. In some people because of their unique anatomy or because of heavy skin in the upper eyelids, it will be impossible to remove all forehead wrinkles. Dr Wade wants all of his clients to have realistic expectations when it comes to Botox. You can still have forehead wrinkles and look rejuvenated at the same time!

How long will the effect last?

Within days of the treatment you should start to see an improvement in your forehead wrinkles. The results can last up to 4 months, but it is necessary to bear in mind that this might vary from patient to patient. With repeated treatments, the result can last longer, so it is advised to repeat your Botox treatment every 3 to 4 months.
