INJECTABLES

BOTOX / DYSPORT

In aesthetic medicine, we use Botox to relax facial muscles. We don’t inject the wrinkle itself but rather a small group of tiny muscles that create the folds in the skin.  After the muscles have been relaxed for a while, the skin folds reduce and the end-result is a smooth, wrinkle-free rejuvenated skin. The results are typically seen, 3-10 days post treatment.

The result of a Botox or Dysport treatment temporary and typically lasts between 3-4 months depending on the area treated being treated and the amont of Botox admisitered.

What is anti-wrinkle injections?

An anti-wrinkle injection is the name of the treatment we perform when administering Botox/Dysport. Botox Cosmetic and Dysport are the brand names we use to administer Botulinim Toxin.

How does Botulinum Toxin work?
Botulinum Toxin is a neuromodulator in other words it relaxes muscles. By injecting the neuromodulator into active muscles that causes lines or wrinkles, the effect will erase or soften the wrinkles.

When will I see an effect after I had my injections?
The neuromodulator will take 3-7 days to take effect. By day 14 there will be maximum effect.

How long does this effect last?
The effect of the Toxin injections will last 3-4 months and even longer if you have the treatment done frequently.

How many times a year can I have the injections done?
In the first year it is recommended to have the injections done 3 times. Thereafter you will notice that you can reduce your frequency.

Is it safe?
Yes, Botulinum Toxin is a FDA approved treatment for reversing lines and wrinkles.

Who should not be injected with botulinum toxin?
People who are pregnant, breastfeeding, with certain neurological conditions or on certain medications should not be injected with Botulinum Toxin.

Is it painful?
Extremely fine needles are used to inject Botulinum Toxin and is well tolerated by patients.

When should I start getting Botulinum Toxin injections?
There is no correct age to start with Botulinum Toxin injections. If there are lines or wrinkles that bother you when your face is in rest, this might be the correct  treatment for you. We see many young people having the injections as preventative treatment.

What areas can be treated?
The most common areas to be treated are the frown lines, forehead lines and crows feet. There are many off label usages for Botulinum Toxin injections as well including: bunny lines (wrinkles on the nose), soft dimpling óf the chin, masseter muscles (teeth grinding and for facial slimming) and excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis).

DERMAL FILLERS

Dermal Fillers are made out of hyaluronic acid, a natural occurring substance that is found in our skin. It’s a gel-like substance that is safely injected underneath the skin to enhance facial features and/or to restore loss of volume due to aging.

With a dermal filler treatment, we can treat the following areas:

  • Lips
  • Naso-labial folds
  • Marionette Lines
  • Cheek volume (to restore loss of volume due to aging)
  • Cheek volume (to enhance features)
  • Forehead wrinkles
  • Mid to lower face fine wrinkles
  • Under eye volume loss
  • Chin enhancement
  • Smoker lines
  • Full Filler Face Lifts (6-10 ml face lifts)

What is dermal filler?

The fillers used in the practice contain hyaluronic acid, which is a smooth gel of a synthetic form of natural molecules found in your body. It produces a natural predictable result which can last over a year depending on the filler in the range that is used. We only use the highest grade of dermal filler with an excellent safety record.

What can it be used for?

  • to enhance volume
  • erase wrinkles
  • augment lips
  • induce collagen production
  • overall restore the youthful 3-dimensional contour of the face

Are there any side effects?

Today’s fillers have an excellent safety record and coupled with advanced injection techniques and the use of micro-canulas, side effects are extremely uncommon.

Occasionally bruising, redness and swelling may occur, which is transient and will resolve.

Contour irregularities can occasionally occur. Massaging can usually smooth out irregularities, however if this persists, the filler can be easily dissolved.

Although very rare, Infection can occur as with all injections. The syringe is sterile and standard disinfection procedures are followed to minimise this risk.

The worst possible complications are necrosis and blindness. Fortunately this is extremely rare and happens when the filler is injected into a blood vessel.

Does it hurt?

Most patients experience only mild discomfort. A local anaesthetic cream is applied prior to the procedure and the filler also contains an anaesthetic for a more comfortable experience.

How long does the treatment take?

Typically the procedure can take take from 30-90 minutes depending on the amount of filler injected.

Who is a good candidate for dermal filler?

If you are in good general health and not suffering from any skin infection, you may be a good candidate for dermal fillers. If you are currently suffering from a skin infection or acne breakout, you will need to resolve this condition prior to your treatment.

You should also inform us of any medication that you may be taking that could affect your treatment outcome.

Which filler will be used?

The choice of filler depends on the individual patient, the treatment goals and personal facial anatomy. It is recommended to book a consultation with the doctor to discuss your concerns and work out a treatment plan.
