MICRONEEDLING / DERMAPEN

Microneedling is a process whereby we  micro-injure the skin, known in medicine as a ”controlled injury”. The body then uses its own natural healing powers (PRP, stem cells and growth factors) to heal the treated area.

New collagen and elastin are now being produced by the body; tightening the skin and healing scars, fine lines and keeping the skin young and full of volume.

Because the microneedling device creates safe pathways for product delivery, we can also treat deeper layers of pigmentation, acne scarring, melasma and sun damaged skin by using the correct medical grade serum(s) to treat these conditions.

What skin concerns/ conditions are treatable with dermapen?

Dermapen provides effective management for most skin conditions, including:

  • Keratosis Pilaris
  • Hypopigmentation
  • Scarring
  • Vitiligo
  • Striae
  • Rosacea
  • Alopecia
  • Telangiectasia
  • Collagen Induction Therapy
  • Sebhorrhoea
  • Skin Rejuvenation
  • Problematic/ Breakouts/ Acne
  • Aging/ Rhytids
  • Enlarged/ Dilated Pores
  • UV Damage
  • Hyperpigmentation

Can I exercise after dermapen treatment?

Exercise is not recommended for 12-24hours after your treatment to prevent redness and bruising

What will I experience after my treatment?

It is typical for clients to experience redness and the sensation of moderate sunburn for roughly 12-24 hours post procedure. Some clients may experience mild bruising or petechiae, especially in area where tissue is thinnest. A typical recovery timeline post treatment defined by:

  • Up to 24 hours- Erythema, petechiae, minor edema
  • 1-2 days- Mild erythema, petechiae, reduced edema, minor itching, dry/tight sensation
  • 2-3 days- reduced erythema, dissipated edema, reduced itching. Minor skin flacking
  • 3-4 days- potential slight dryness
  • 4-5 days- full recovery with normalized function

How many sessions of Microneedling do you need?

Microneedling can be safely repeated every four to six weeks as needed. Collagen induction requires at least 3 to 6 treatments, while scar reduction requires between 3-8 treatments. Four to six weeks should pass between one treatment and the next

Is Microneedling better than Botox?

Both microneedling and Botox injections are safe and effective for patients with all skin types. Depending on patient needs, you may even recommend both, using microneedling to improve the surface and deeper condition of the skin, with Botox injections to help improve results longer term

How long does your face stay red after Microneedling?

24 hours. It’s totally normal for your skin to appear red after you’ve had microneedling done, but the majority of the redness should subside within 24 hours. However, if a more aggressive treatment was done, the redness may linger for a bit longer.

Does Microneedling help sagging neck?

Treatment can successfully reduce lax skin or saggy tissue along the neck. These techniques tighten these thin tissues, giving droopy skin a significant lift and youthful appearance.

Is dermapen really effective?

It’s considered effective in treating minor scarring related to acne, wounds, and aging. You’ll likely notice brighter, firmer skin, too. Ideal results are achieved after multiple sessions. Microneedling is far more effective than at-home rollers.

Microneedling increases the production of collagen and other healing factors by causing trauma to the skin. … Skin can also lose collagen due to injuries, such as acne scarring, stretch marks, or other scars

Is Microneedling the same as dermapen?

Both are microneedling devices, designed to induce collagen production by causing thousands of micro-injuries to the skin and stimulating the skin’s natural healing processes. However, the Dermapen 4 utilizes a needle head consisting of 16 needles.

How often should you microneedle your face?

The frequency of the treatment varies with the treatment’s intensity. Mild treatment can be repeated every 2-4weeks & the deep treatment for removing scars can be repeated every 4-6 weeks

What’s better dermaroller or dermapen?

Dermapen is better as there is less damage to the epidermis then if you had the procedure with a Dermaroller ,which means quicker healing and better results.. With Dermarolling you cannot set the depth as precisely as you can with a dermapen so this will leave you with potentially uneven results.

How long does it take to build collagen after Microneedling?

Four to six weeks.

This means collagen production is accelerated, along with cellular turnover. While some results may be almost immediate, your best results usually won’t be visible until four to six weeks after the procedure.

What is dermapen good for?

Dermapen stimulates the production of collagen to create smoother, healthier skin. It reduces acne scarring, stretch marks, fine lines, pigmentation, enlarged pores and scarring.

Microneedling has been proven to be a safe and effective treatment for under-eye bags and darkness. When you stay with your treatment plan, you will notice your eye bags gradually disappear, and your wrinkles become less visible

How long do Microneedling results last?

The effects of the initial round of microneedling treatments last on average between four to six weeks, for most people. That said, the amount of treatments and exact time frame will depend on your issues, age, skin type, and how your skin responds to the treatment

Is microneedling better than laser?

They are both effective. Micro-needling is effective and much less risky procedure than laser skin resurfacing. Microneedling or skin needling is minimally invasive procedure to rejuvenate the outer surface of your skin using tiny needles to cause superficial puncture wounds in your skin.

The difference between microneedling and vampire facial?

Microneedling is a quick collagen inducting treatment which uses micro needles to penetrate the skin. Vampire Facial is an extract of your own blood that contains platelets. When PRP is placed back into the skin, it initiates a localized growth cell response

How do I maintain best results from Microneedling?

  • Apply a broad-spectrum SPF daily
  • Invest in a good moisturiser suited to your skin type

The product is quickly absorbed by the skin and reaches its full numbing effect within 20 to 25 minutes while it lasts for as long as 2 hours.

How deep do you go with Microneedling?

We needle an average of 0.25-2mm needle length to achieve pinpoint bleeding to get a positive response from the treatment.

Can you microneedle over stubble?

NANOFRACTIONAL RESURFACING

Venus Versa™ NanoFractional RF is a non-surgical radiofrequency (RF) nano-fractional device designed to resurface the skin. The device delivers targeted columns of RF energy to the tissue, designed to damage the existing collagen, stimulating the body’s natural healing response.

Once the collagen has been damaged, they body begins to repair the collagen by replacing the damaged collagen with new collagen. The RF also stimulates the body to produce new fibroblasts, the “houses” that create collagen, thus increasing the amount of collagen in the tissue. This wound healing creates a smoother appearance to the skin, plumps up fine line and wrinkles, treats acne scars, reduces pigmented lesions and textural irregularities of the skin.

Am I a good candidate for this treatment / Will this treatment work for me?

The ideal candidate is anyone who shows signs of skin damage, including deep wrinkles, scars, visible pores, stretch marks, and/or anything else that affects the skin’s texture.

Do I need to do anything to prepare for the treatment?

Make sure your skin is clean. Do not apply any lotions, creams, perfumes, powder, or makeup before your treatment session, and avoid tanning. Remove all jewelry around the area being treated. If you have excessive hair on the treatment area, shave it beforehand. It also helps to be prepared with information about your medical history—the aesthetician will likely ask about it.

Most importantly stop using any active products, such as retinol, at least 3 days prior to your treatments.

How long does a treatment session last?

Each session lasts 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the area being treated.

What does the treatment feel like?

Depending on the treatment area, numbing cream may be used to allow for a comfortable procedure , however you may still feel the tiny pins on your skin followed by a little zap. Your face will then feel warm, like a sunburn, anywhere between 4 to 6 hours post treatment. Some sensitivity may even last longer.

Will it be painful?

Venus Viva™ treatments may be slightly uncomfortable, but not painful. You’ll feel intense heat, similar to the feeling of sunburn, and your face will look red right after the treatment for anywhere between 4 to 6 hours.

How will I feel after my treatment?

Your skin will be red and feel warm afterward, like a sunburn. You can ease this by fanning or exposing the area to cool air. Within the first 24 hours, only apply topicals that have been recommended or prescribed by the aesthetician. The warm feeling, sensitivity and redness should go away within 24 hours.

Is there downtime after the treatment / How long is the recovery time?

Yes, but only for 24 hours post-treatment (or up to 5 days for more aggressive treatments), unlike lasers or other treatments where recovery or downtime lasts up to 10 days. Your skin will be red and sensitive for the first 24 hours. After 24 hours, you may put on makeup and resume your regular skin care routine. You should always apply sunscreen (at least SPF 30) to maintain your results and prevent sun damage. Avoid rigorous exercise and hot baths or massages on the treatment area for the first 2 days after your session. Make sure to keep your skin clean and protected from the sun. Avoid any sort of tanning.

How long will the results last and are they permanent?

After your final treatment, your results will continue to improve. However, one touch-up session may be needed approximately every 6 months, depending on how your skin responds.

Do I need to do anything after my treatment?

If your skin feels hot, you can use a fan to cool it down. Avoid touching or scratching the treatment area. For the first 24 hours, only apply products that are expressly recommended by your treatment provider, as there are many topicals that could cause severe irritation. After 24 hours, you should apply sunscreen (at least SPF 30), preferably one without chemicals. Also avoid rigorous exercise and hot baths or massages on the treatment area for the first 2 days after your session. Make sure to keep your skin clean and protected from the sun. Avoid any sort of tanning.

Can I put makeup or moisturizer on after my treatment?

No. You should wait till 24 hours after your treatment to apply any makeup or lotion. Some topicals or skin care may be recommended by the aesthetician, and anything you apply should be done in-office or prescribed by them.

DIAMOND POLAR MP²   RADIOFREQUENCY

Venus Versa™ (MP)2 treatments use a non-surgical radiofrequency (RF), pulsed electromagnetic device designed to tighten the skin, reduce the circumference, and soften wrinkles.

The device delivers RF and pulsed electromagnetic energy at the targeted tissue, designed to damage the existing collagen, stimulating the body’s healing response. Once the collagen has been damaged, the body begins to repair the skin by replacing damaged tissue with new collage.

The RF also stimulates the body to produce new fibroblasts, the “houses” that create collage, thus increasing the amount of collagen in the tissue. This wound healing response creates a smoother appearance to the skin, plumps up fine lines and wrinkles.

Pulsed electromagnetic fields increase the vascularity of the skin and create new pathways for the blood to flow.

This increase in blood will provide more oxygen to the skin and bring more nutrients to the tissue. A fresher, more  youthful glow is common after treatments

Am I a good candidate for this treatment / Will this treatment work for me?

The best candidate is someone who is starting to lose elasticity in their skin and is showing early signs of sagging and wrinkles.

Can darker skins have this treatment done?

Yes. Venus Viva™ uses technology that’s safe for all skin tones, even darker ones.

How many sessions will I need to see results?

Most patients receive 6-8 treatments per area. The exact number will depend on each individual person and the area being treated.

How often or far apart should the treatments be done?

Treatments are done once a week for the best results, however if done with a chemical peel then we recommend every 2 to 3 weeks.

Do I need to do anything to prepare for the treatment?

Just make sure your skin is clean. Do not apply any lotions, creams or makeup before your treatment. Remove all jewelry around the area being treated.

How long does a treatment session last?

Each session lasts 45 to 60 minutes, depending on the area being treated.

What does the treatment feel like?

The applicator will slowly get warmer till your skin reaches the needed temperature and stays within that temperature range, the aesthetician massages the applicator over the skin allowing for a very relaxing and comfortable sensation.  But if you do feel it’s too hot, just let your aesthetician know and they can easily lower the temperature a bit.

Will it be painful?

Absolutley not! This is one of the most comfortable treatments. Some say it feels like a relaxing hot stone massage. Some even fall asleep during the treatment.

How will I feel after my treatment?

If anything, you’ll feel relaxed. The treatment is comfortable and has been compared to a relaxing hot stone massage. Some patients have even fallen asleep while they were getting treated.

How long will the results last, and are they permanent?

The treatments are cumulative. After your final treatment, your results will continue to improve for up to 3-4 months. After that, your face and body continue to age, so maintenance is recommended once a month or every 3-4 months, depending on the person.

Is there really no downtime?

Absolutely no downtime. The treatment area may look a little flushed and warm to the touch, but this will go away within 1-2 hours. You can return to your daily schedule immediately after your treatment.

Do I need to do anything after my treatment?

No, you do not need to do anything after your treatment.

Can I put makeup on after my treatment?

Yes, you can apply makeup immediately after your treatment, unless you have had a chemical peel as an add on with your treatment, then we recommend that you don’t apply make up for the remainder of the day.

IPL SKIN REJUVENATION

Venus Versa™ IPL treatments can significantly improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, pore size, textural irregularities, and vascular and pigmentation blemishes.

Venus Versa™ IPL treatments direct IPL energy to the skin in targeted treatment areas. This energy passes through the outer surface of the skin, called the epidermis, and penetrates the lower layer of the skin, called the dermis. Once in the dermis, the IPL energy stimulates a cell called fibroblast to produce new collagen.

Over several  treatments, this new collagen smoothens and softens the appearance of wrinkles. The treatment utilizes special filters to control the wavelength of the IPL
energy to improve the appearance of rosacea, sun-damaged skin with pigmentation abnormalities, and vascular blemishes such as spider veins.

When delivering the IPL energy to the skin, it is important to cool the skin to avoid injury. A cooling crystal is integrated in the
Venus Versa™ IPL applicator to assist with patient comfort and safety.

Can I work out after the treatment?

No, we advise to wait 24 hours post treatment

Does this burn the skin?

There is always a risk of a blister forming, however very unlikely.

Yes, this is a good sign.

Is the scabs coverable with make-up?

CHEMICAL PEELS & FACIALS

Chemical Peels use various types of acids that are applied to the skin to address multiple concerns. This is achieved by removing the outermost layer of the skin. Chemical Peels are great for superficial pigmentation, acne, Post Inflammatory Hyper-pigmentation, anti-aging, and any texture irregularities.

We combine a chemical peel with various other treatment modalities such as microdermabrasion, Dermaplaning, DF machine together with a specific serum to address various concerns. These facials can be custom made to address any concerns that you might have for your skin.

What is a chemical Peel?

A chemical peel is applying a safe layer of acid on your skin. This helps to resurface the skin.

What are the indications for chemical peels?

Acne, pigmentation, anti-aging, and prevention

What are the contra-indications?

Active cold sore lesions, open wounds on the skin (excludes acne), sunburn, topical or oral (depending on dosage) treatment with isotretinoin, photo-sensitising medication, bacterial infections, viral infections, fungal infections

How soon after the chemical peel can I have facial waxing done?

We prefer if you wait 2 weeks after your chemical peel, also have a wax 2 weeks before your appointment.

Did the chemical peel still work even though my skin did not flake/Peel?

Yes, the chemical peel solution has gone into your skin and is working from the inside out.

What results will I see with my first chemical peel?

If it is a superficial peel, you will most likely see a difference in texture (smooth skin) and luminosity. Therefore, you need multiple treatments

How long will it take to see results after the chemical peel?

You will likely only see the full results after 2 weeks. But remember, one treatment is not going to take away all your concerns.

How often can I have a chemical Peel?

Depending on the peel, but a superficial peel can be done every two weeks. A deeper peel can be done once a month.

Can you only have chemical peel done in the winter?

If you know that you are not a sun worshipper as well as very compliant with applying and re-applying your SPF then you can have chemical peels done in the summer. However, our TCA and melanoplus peel we only advise to have in the winter.

What are risks of having a chemical peel?

Post inflammatory hyperpigmentation. This usually happens if you don’t follow the correct aftercare and had sun exposure after the chemical peel.

My pigmentation looks darker after the chemical peel?

This is very normal. It is an indication that your pigmentation, that was lying in your deeper layer of skin, is rising to the surface. This will become lighter with time.

Does chemical Peels thin your skin because it is removing the upper layer of the skin?

No, it does the complete opposite. It helps to plump up the skin. The chemical peel causes a controlled wound in your skin, this then stimulates your collagen and elastin to heal your skin. The collagen and elastin are therefore going to thicken your skin.

I am pregnant, can I still do a chemical peel?

Yes, we have a very safe peel for pregnancy

I am breastfeeding, can I still do a chemical peel?

Yes, we have a very safe peel for while you are breastfeeding. The other option is to pump and dump your milk for 4-8 hours

Can I apply a numbing cream before I come in for the chemical peel?

No, this will change the acidity level of your skin and can cause an adverse reaction

Will a chemical peel be painful?

With a superficial peel, you might only feel a slight tingling sensation like ant crawling on your skin. If it is a deeper peel such as our TCA or melanoplus you will have a more burning sensation we do however provide you with a fan to help soothe this

How do I know what type of chemical peel to choose?

On the day of your treatment, the Therapist will look at all your skin concerns and then decide on the appropriate chemical peel for you.

Is a chemical peel for all skin colours?

Yes all our superficial peels are safe for all skin colours.

I have an extremely sensitive skin/ Rosacea/eczema can I have a chemical peel?

We would first have to do a skin consultation to determine the severity of your sensitivity. Our therapists might first put you on the correct products to prep your skin before having

How long is the treatment?

This is a quick procedure, usually 30 minutes to 45minutes

When can I start exercising again?

If it is a superficial peel, you can start exercising after 24hours. If it is a TCA or a melanoplus we advise only after 48 hours.

What is the down time?

With a superficial chemical peel, there is little to no down time. After the treatment you might be slightly flushed and might start flaking on the second or third day. With a deeper chemical peel like the TCA or melanoplus you will be very red and sensitive for a few days. You will also have extensive peeling for about 5 to 7 days

When can I wear make-up again?

We advise to not wear foundation for the rest of the day. You can however apply lipstick and eye make-up

What is the difference between Dermapen and a chemical peel?

Think of your grass, your chemical peel is like your lawn mower it works on the surface. Your Dermapen and a specific serum is like a fork and fertiliser which stimulates from the bottom up

Can I combine chemical peels with other treatments?

Yes, your therapist will be able to guide you and work out a treatment plan. This will ensure that you don’t do treatments to soon

What does Dermaplaning do?

Dermaplaning is a form of mechanical exfoliation that removes dead skin and the fine hairs on the skin. This is done by using a sharp surgical blade.

What does Microdermabrasion do?

Microdermabrasion is also a form of mechanical exfoliation.  This is done by using a special instrument with a suction cup with an abrasive tip.

What does the DF machine do?

The DF machine uses various forms of technology called Iontophoresis and Sonophoresis. These technologies allows for better product penetration of any serum that we apply onto the skin.

What is the Acne Facial?

This is a deep cleansing facial for acne skin. This facial includes deep exfoliation with steam followed by extractions if needed.  After these steps we apply a glycolic serum which will be massaged into your skin via our DF machine to enhance product penetration. The glycolic serum will help to resurface the skin and address any acne concerns. The last step is 10 minutes under a LED light. The settings of the LED will be concentrated on the Blue light which helps to kill any bacteria on the skin.

What is the skin recharge anti-aging Facial?

This facial includes three major steps. 1. Microdermabrasion. 2 Chemical Peel. 3 LED light therapy

This facial is great for texture problems, mild acne skin, superficial pigmentation, sun-damage and overall skin maintenance for brightening up your skin.

What does the Hydration Facial (with DF machine) do?

  2. DF Machine with a vitamin C serum
  3. LED Light Therapy

The chemical peel will leave your skin feeling soft and radiant, the type of peel will be chosen according to your skin needs. Vitamin C helps to brighten up your skin, this will be massaged into your skin Via the DF machine allowing deeper product penetration. The LED light therapy setting will also depend on your skin concern. There is no down time with this facial.

What Is Cosmelan?

Cosmelan is one of the world’s leading depigmentation methods that gently targets and treats unwanted pigmentation on the face and body. The Melan Protech 130+ SPF does help to cover some of the redness on the skin.

Is Cosmelan a permanent fix for my pigmentation?

There is no real cure for hyperpigmentation. Epidermal pigmentation may see good to excellent results whilst deeper dermal pigmentation may see fair to moderate results. It is a management process that depends on your commitment to the phases of the Cosmelan Protocol. Failure to persist with the treatment may lead to the reappearance of dark spots.

Can I begin the Cosmelan Journey if I am pregnant, planning a pregnancy or breast feeding?

NoUnfortunately you cannot be on Cosmelan as there are high doses of retinol and salicylic acid in the Cosmelan products.

What are the contraindications to Cosmelan?

Topical or oral treatment with isotretinoin, sun-sensitising anti-biotics, hydroquinone, active bacterial, viral, fungal or herpes infection. You have to wait 6 months after topical hydroquinone or oral isotretinoin before starting with Cosmelan.

Is it normal to feel hot and sensitive when the mask is on?

Patients often describe a sensation of heat and stinging. This is all normal.

8-12 hours depending on your phototype, sensitivity and skin type. Your therapist will guide you with this.

What can I expect my skin to look like after removing the mask?

Varying degrees of redness, swelling or flaking. Everyone is different and skins may differ in reaction.

How should I store my Cosmelan 2 maintenance cream?

Ensure the product is sealed tightly and store below 23 degrees Celsius. If you live in a very warm climate you may keep it in the fridge.

Will Cosmelan help with the vascularity on my skin? (Vascular pigmentation- redness)

Vascular pigmentation is driven by blood vessels that are dilated and are activating the tyrosinase enzymes that will stimulate pigmentation. Cosmelan cannot treat vascularity as it cannot extend that deep into the skin. We Recommend IPL after completing the Cosmelan Protocol to shrink down those blood vessels. (You can read more about our IPL Treatment here)

You may continue with the reappearance control phase indefinitely as it has no side effects and has all the active ingredients in it for anti-ageing as well as preventing future reappearance of hyper pigmentation.

OR

You can step down to our Mesoestetic Tran3X homecare products.

How soon can I have the Cosmelan 1 Mask again?

Not less than 12 months after the 1st application of the mask. You have to wait a minimum of 1 year as your skin needs time to recover.

Can I just apply my Cosmelan2 maintenance cream as a spot treatment?

Please apply Cosmelan 2 evenly to your whole face to ensure and even skin tone and texture as well as getting all the anti-ageing benefits of the product. Only if the contrast between normal skin and pigment gets to great then do spot treatment application.

Why do I have to use the Melan 130+ Pigment Control SPF50 and not any other SPF?

Melan 130+ is superior in its ability to protect against UVB rays that actually cause the damage to the epidermis. It also contains Azelaic Acid which has a depigmenting effect and therefore works synergistically with the other products to give you even better results!

Ouch! Is it normal for the Anti-stress mask to sting on application after the removal of the mask?

It is completely normal for the mask to sting as your barrier has been disturbed by the Cosmelan 1 mask. The Anti-Stress mask will not cause PIH.

  • You may use a misting/spray bottle and mist the mask with water to prevent the mask from drying too soon.

Removal of Cosmelan One Mask (Completed at home by the patient):

  • Remove the mask from your eyes, neck, décolleté first
    • Remove by carefully cleansing with plenty of lukewarm water. It is important that you never exceed the recommended application time.
  • After removal skin will have varying degrees of redness, swelling or flaking. Everyone is different and skins may differ in reaction.
  • Homecare Recovery- This is the 5-7 days post removal of Cosmelan 1 mask. DO NOT APPLY COSMELAN 2 maintenance cream during these 5-7 days! You may flake 2-3 days after the mask so you may ease the flaking with; Melan Recovery, Fast Skin repair or the anti-stress mask.
