What is Sculptra?
Sculptra® is a non-surgical, FDA-approved injectable treatment known for its ability to stimulate collagen production, restore volume to the skin and face, and as a result, provides a tightening of the skin. Sculptra is primarily made out of active Ingredient known as Poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a biocompatible and biodegradable synthetic substance.
How Does PLLA Work?
- Tissue Regeneration: The PLLA microparticles create an inflammatory response, which triggers the body’s natural healing process.
- Collagen Stimulation: When correctly administered, Sculptra stimulates fibroblasts, the cells responsible for producing collagen.
- Volume Restoration: As collagen is produced, it gradually restores volume to the treated areas, improving the appearance of wrinkles and folds and providing firmness and volume to the skin.
- Microscopic Framework: PLLA particles act as a scaffold, providing structural support that allows for new collagen to form.
- Biodegradable and safe absorption: Over time, the body safely absorbs the PLLA particles, leaving behind the newly formed collagen.
Treatment Process
The process involves the precise placement of Sculptra, through the use of a cannula injection technique, tailored to the patient’s unique facial structure.

It can work as a stand-alone treatment protocol, or even better, when combined with wrinkle reduction treatments like Botox or Dysport, and dermal fillers such as Restylane.
How Many Treatments Are Required?
A minimum of 2-4 treatments are required, with each treatment spaced 45 days , or roughly 6 weeks, apart. On average, a series of three treatment sessions are recommended. As per Sculptra’s clinical trials, a minimum of two treatment sessions are required. The number of treatments will depend on the degree of correction needed and will be determined by your dedicated doctor at Natural Aesthetics.
When do I see results? How long does the results last?
The results of Sculptra are not immediate, instead it provides a gradual improvement of the depressed area over several months as the treatment effects occur.

The effects of Sculptra can last for more than two years as the collagen framework is robust and persists even after the PLLA is absorbed. U.S. clinical studies have shown that the results for some patients lasted for up to 25 months after the last treatment session.
Downtime & Risks
- Minimal to No Downtime: Sculptra treatments are known for having minimal to no downtime. Patients can often return to their regular activities immediately after the procedure.
- Temporary Side Effects: Some patients may experience mild side effects such as redness, swelling, tenderness, or bruising at the injection site. These are usually temporary and subside within a few days.
- Rare Side Effects: Small bumps under the skin, discoloration, or hypersensitivity reactions.
- Safety: Sculptra is FDA-approved for aesthetic use in immune-competent people.
Post-Treatment Care
While there is minimal to no downtime, patients are usually advised to massage the treated area and avoid excessive sun exposure for a short period after the treatment. These specific post-care guidelines will be explained to you during your consultation and reiterated after each treatment session. Additionally, you will be provided with aftercare products and detailed instructions to follow for 5 days after each treatment.
