WHAT ARE HYALURONIC ACID DERMAL FILLERS?

Hyaluronic acid dermal fillers are non-surgical treatments used to restore volume, smooth fine lines, and enhance facial features. Hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring substance in the skin, helps retain moisture, keeping the skin plump and hydrated. Restylane is a premium hyaluronic acid-based dermal filler that rejuvenates the skin by replenishing lost volume and enhancing facial contours. These fillers are highly versatile and can be used for everything from lip enhancement to wrinkle reduction, offering natural-looking, long-lasting results.

How Restyle works

Hyaluronic acid fillers like Restylane work by attracting and retaining moisture in the skin, providing immediate plumping effects to targeted areas. Once injected, the hyaluronic acid binds with water molecules beneath the skin, filling out wrinkles, adding volume, and restoring a youthful appearance. The process is minimally invasive and quick, with results visible immediately and continuing to improve over time. As the body naturally metabolises hyaluronic acid, touch-ups are required to maintain the desired effect, typically every 6 to 12 months.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Here are a few of the most common questions and answers regarding the use of Restylane® fillers. If you have other questions or concerns about treatment, please consult with one of our medical doctors.

What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are injectable treatments that can help to diminish the appearance of wrinkles while restoring volume and fullness in the face and hands, or to re-shape features to meet aesthetic goals, such as achieving a fuller lip or correcting the appearance of a recessed chin.

There are several types of dermal fillers, one being hyaluronic acid (HA). All Restylane fillers use HA gel technology made of transparent hyaluronic acids, which are sugars naturally found in the skin that help provide hydration, fullness, and elasticity.

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a naturally occurring substance in your skin that helps provide hydration, fullness, and elasticity. It diminishes as we age, causing skin to lose volume while increasing the chances for wrinkles and folds to appear.

Results will vary depending on the product, your individual body chemistry (your metabolism) and the amount of product used, but based on clinical studies Restylane fillers last between 1 year and up to 18 months or longer, depending on the type of filler being used.

Restylane is FDA-approved and generally considered safe when administered by a qualified professional. Side effects are typically mild and temporary.

After your treatment, you may experience common side effects, which can include: swelling, redness, pain, bruising, headache. tenderness, lump formation, itching at the injection site. These are typically mild in severity and typically resolve within a few days.

Most patients experience minimal discomfort. The fillers contain lidocaine to help numb the area, and a topical numbing cream can also be used, and for some dermal filler treatments, the injection site will be numbed with local anaesthesia.

Avoid alcohol, aspirin, and other blood-thinning medications for at least 24 hours before the procedure to minimize bruising.

Avoid strenuous exercise, excessive sun or heat exposure, and alcohol for 24 hours. Apply ice to reduce swelling and avoid touching the treated area.

Restylane products should not be used by people who

  • Are pregnant, breastfeeding, or under 18 years of age.
  • Have recently used drugs that thin the blood or prevent clotting.
  • Have had previous bad allergies, particularly to microorganisms known as gram-positive bacteria.
  • Have serious allergies to drugs that have previously required in-hospital treatment.
  • Have bleeding disorders.
  • Have a known allergy to lidocaine.

If you are in good general health and not suffering from any skin infection, you may be a good candidate for dermal fillers. If you are currently suffering from a skin infection or acne breakout, you will need to resolve this condition prior to your treatment.

You should also inform us of any medication that you may be taking that could affect your treatment outcome.

Yes, Restylane can be combined with other treatments such as Botox, chemical peels, and laser treatments for enhanced results.

Results are typically visible immediately after the treatment, with full effects seen within a few days as any swelling subsides.

Most Restylane appointments last less than an hour.

Initial Restylane treatments are usually complete in one or two sessions, as needed. Depending on your individual body chemistry, you will work with one of our specialist doctors to determine a maintenance schedule and to acheive your individual needs and beauty goals.

When comparing Restylane dermal fillers to other popular hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers like Juvederm, Belotero, Teosyal, Revanesse, and Stylage, Restylane stands out for its longevity and customisable approach. Restylane’s unique gel formulation ensures a smooth, natural look that adapts to different facial areas, whether you want lip fillers, cheek fillers, or fillers for wrinkles. Restylane is also known for offering a broad range of products designed to address specific concerns while maintaining consistency in texture and results. Its track record for safety and effectiveness makes it a preferred option over competing fillers in Cape Town’s aesthetic clinics.

Restylane dermal fillers offer long-lasting results, providing a natural-looking enhancement to facial features such as the lips, cheeks, and wrinkles. Their versatility allows them to be used in different areas, delivering smooth texture and consistency while minimising the risk of side effects. FDA-approved and customisable, Restylane skinboosters are based on hyaluronic acid, which not only hydrates the skin but also ensures safe and effective treatments tailored to your individual needs.
