PRP Hair Regeneration

What is PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) HAir Regeneration?

PRP Hair Rejuvenation, also referred to as PRP hair treatment, involves using your body’s own platelets to stimulate hair growth. Platelets are rich in growth factors, which play a vital role in tissue repair and cellular regeneration. This advanced treatment is ideal for individuals experiencing hair thinning or early-stage hair loss, offering a natural and minimally invasive way to rejuvenate hair follicles. By harnessing the natural healing properties of Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP), Natural Aesthetics, one of Cape Town’s leading specialists in skin care and aesthetic medicine, offers a safe and effective way to thicker and healthier hair for both men and women.

How Does PRP Hair Treatment Work?

The process begins with a small blood sample drawn from the patient. This blood is then processed in a centrifuge to separate the platelet-rich plasma from other components. The concentrated and activated PRP is carefully injected into targeted areas of the scalp, where it stimulates hair follicles, encourages new growth, and strengthens existing hair.

Platelet-rich plasma treatment is quick, typically completed in under an hour, and requires no downtime, making it a convenient option for those with busy lifestyles. Regular sessions spaced a few weeks apart ensure optimal results, as the PRP continues to support and enhance follicular activity over time.

Why Choose PRP Hair Rejuvenation Over Other Hair Loss Treatments?

PRP Hair Regeneration stands out due to its natural, non-invasive approach. Unlike surgical procedures like hair transplants, PRP does not require incisions or prolonged recovery periods. Additionally, it avoids the systemic side effects associated with certain medications.

Compared to treatments like Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) or scalp micro pigmentation, PRP directly targets hair follicle health, promoting genuine hair regeneration rather than merely masking the effects of hair loss. This makes it an ideal hair loss treatment for both men and women.

PRP Hair Regeneration taps into the regenerative properties of platelet-rich plasma (PRP), a component found in the patient’s own blood. The procedure typically involves the following steps:

Blood Collection: A small amount of the patient’s blood is drawn, typically from the arm.

Plasma Separation: The blood is processed in a centrifuge to separate the PRP from other blood components.

Activation: The isolated PRP is activated to release growth factors that encourage hair follicle rejuvenation.

Injection: The activated PRP is then carefully injected into the areas of the scalp where hair loss or thinning is a concern.

Exercise is not recommended for 12-24hours after your treatment to prevent redness and bruising

Most patients notice improvements within 3–6 months of starting treatment, with optimal results visible after multiple sessions.

It is typical for clients to experience redness and the sensation of moderate sunburn for roughly 12-24 hours post procedure. Some clients may experience mild bruising or petechiae, especially in area where tissue is thinnest. A typical recovery timeline post treatment defined by:

  • Up to 24 hours- Erythema, petechiae, minor edema
  • 1-2 days- Mild erythema, petechiae, reduced edema, minor itching, dry/tight sensation
  • 2-3 days- reduced erythema, dissipated edema, reduced itching. Minor skin flacking
  • 3-4 days- potential slight dryness
  • 4-5 days- full recovery with normalized function

Results can last up to 18 months, with maintenance sessions helping to sustain progress.

Hair loss treatments offer various benefits, but each has limitations. Medications often require long-term use with side effects, while hair transplants are effective but invasive and costly. Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) is non-invasive but less effective for advanced cases, and scalp micro pigmentation provides only cosmetic results. Hair loss injections can complement other treatments but lack regenerative properties.

Among these options, PRP Hair Rejuvenation stands out as a minimally invasive solution that promotes natural hair growth, bridging the gap between invasive procedures and surface-level treatments for lasting, visible results.
