What is a Chemical Peel?

Chemical Peels are a deeper form of exfoliation using Alpha or Beta hydroxy acids which are all natural and are derived from Fruit acids. These acids help to digest dead skin cells and encouraging the growth of new ones therefore giving your skin that glow. These chemical peels are superficial, so they only reach the surface layers of the skin. They are very safe to use and will not cause damage to healthy skin underneath. Chemical Peel Somerset West.

What to remember when going for a peel:

  • Stop using exfoliants 3 days before and after as well as Vitamin A products
  • Do not go in the sun after a peel and use an SPF of at least 50 daily.
  • Try not to pick your skin if it is peeling, it’s better for the skin to fall off naturally so you don’t damage the new skin underneath. To ease the discomfort, you can apply a moisturiser.
  • It’s better not to have a peel when you are sick as your immune system is down causing your skin to react more.

How often can I go for a peel?

Some of our patients like to have peels every 2 weeks for accelerated results, otherwise once a month.

We advise 3 – 6 peels for optimal results.

TCA Peels (Trichloroacetic acid)

This is a very strong peel as it penetrates the deeper layers of the skin. This acid is chemically made in a lab. This procedure can be uncomfortable, BUT the results are well worth it.  This peel is great for acne scarring as well as stubborn pigmentation.

You will experience a lot of peeling and dryness over the next 5-7 days but once that layer of skin has peeled off you will see a considerable difference in your skin.

What does it cost?

The cost for peels range from R600 – R1,600 depending on the depth and type of peel.
