What are lip fillers?

Lip fillers are a gel-like substance that is safely injected just underneath the top layer of the lip itself.  Dermal Fillers are made out of hyaluronic acid, which is a natural occurring substance that is found in our skin.

Are lip fillers permanent?

Lip Fillers are temporary, lasting anywhere from 6-months to a year, with most people reaching the 10-month mark.

How many ml’s would I need?

About 85% of our patients choose only  to have 1 ml injected.  Most of the time, this is more than enough.

Can I add another ml or two?

Yes, you can. Many of our younger patients desire to achieve “Kylie Lips” or lips with a lot of volume – this achieved by 2-3 visits spaced over a 1 year period.

Our advice would be to go home and think about it.  You can always come back in a couple of weeks should you like to add more. Best to wait at least 2 weeks to a month.

Why do people get Lip Fillers?

Due to ageing, most people lose volume in their lips, it can be used to restore the volume that was once there.  We have also seen patients that want to correct asymmetry, patients that want add volume to match their upper or lower lip, fill-in gaps etc.  Then of course, most of our patients do it to advance their own appearance.

Beautiful lips speak volume, so to speak.

Is a lip filler treatment painful?

At our practices, when administering lip fillers, we completely numb the lips with both a local anaesthetic as well as a strong medical grade numbing cream, so that our patients can enjoy a comfortable experience.

Patients are sent home with an ice brick to reduce most of the post treatment swelling (if any).

Treatment Protocol and duration

All of our lip filler treatments are scheduled for 60 minutes in duration. These are medical treatments and should not be rushed and should be done in a calm and relaxing environment. We also want to ensure that we have enough time to consult, plan, numb and to administer the lip filler treatment.

After the lips have been numbed, the procedure itself only takes about 15-20 minutes to complete.

All treatments are planned to give our patients a quality experience, the best and safest products are used – all with the aim of achieving the best and safest results possible.
