Ozempic & Mounjaro

GLP-1 Programmes: Ozempic, Wegovy and Mounjaro

Our GLP-1 medical weight loss programmes, using either Semaglutide (such as Ozempic and Wegovy) or Tirzepatide (such as Mounjaro), are conducted under the medical supervision and guidance of our experienced medical doctors at Natural Aesthetics clinics in Cape Town, located in Green Point, Tyger Valley, and Somerset West.

GLP-1 Weight Loss Programme Explained

At Natural Aesthetics, our GLP-1 medical weight loss programmes are fully medically supervised and tailored to each patient’s individual needs. This ensures that these medications are used safely and correctly, rather than simply being dispensed.

  1. You will begin with a 30-minute consultation with one of our experienced medical doctors, during which your medical history and suitability for GLP-1 medications (Semaglutide and Tirzepatide) will be assessed. You will receive a detailed GLP-1 programme information pack, an eating guide with daily calorie guidance, and an easy-to-follow recipe book, including vegan, vegetarian, kosher, and halaal options. We also guide you carefully on how to introduce the medication gradually, allowing your body to adjust and helping to minimise side effects.
  2. At your consultation, we will conduct an InBody scan, which provides a comprehensive body composition analysis, including weight, muscle mass, body fat, water levels, and segmental fat and muscle distribution. This allows for evidence-based guidance, such as determining your daily calorie needs. InBody scans can be repeated every 4 to 6 weeks to accurately track progress and overall health, which is especially important to ensure fat loss while preserving muscle mass throughout the programme.
  3. Throughout the programme, we follow up weekly via WhatsApp using a short questionnaire to support you, monitor progress, assess eating habits and activity levels, and guide dosage adjustments when needed.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Here are a few of the most common questions and answers regarding our GLP-1 medical weight loss programmes. If you have other questions or concerns, they will be addressed by one of our doctors during your consultation.

A GLP-1 weight loss programme uses prescription medications such as Semaglutide (Ozempic and Wegovy) or Tirzepatide (Mounjaro) to help regulate appetite, reduce hunger, improve satiety, and support metabolic health. These medications mimic natural gut hormones involved in appetite and blood sugar regulation, allowing patients to eat less comfortably while following a structured, medically supervised programme.

GLP-1 programmes may be suitable for patients who struggle with weight loss, appetite control, insulin resistance, or obesity, and for those who have not achieved results with lifestyle changes alone. Suitability is determined during a medical consultation after a full assessment of medical history, goals, and individual health factors.

Yes. Our GLP-1 weight loss programmes are fully medically supervised by experienced medical doctors. This includes medical screening, personalised dosing, ongoing monitoring, and structured follow-up to ensure safety and effectiveness.

We use prescription GLP-1 medications such as Ozempic and Wegovy (Semaglutide) and Mounjaro (Tirzepatide). The most appropriate medication is prescribed based on your individual needs, medical history, and weight loss goals.

Your initial consultation with one of our medical doctors is approximately 30 minutes. During this time, your medical history, suitability for treatment, and weight loss goals are assessed, and a personalised treatment plan is created.

Many patients begin to notice reduced appetite and improved portion control within the first week. Weight loss typically occurs gradually and consistently over time, depending on dosage, adherence to the programme, and individual response.

The duration varies between patients. Some patients use the programme for a 3-4 months, while others may remain on treatment for longer periods, 6-8 months, depending on their goals and medical needs. Treatment duration and tapering are always guided by a medical doctor.

Some patients may experience side effects such as nausea, reduced appetite, bloating, or fatigue, particularly during the first two weeks as their body adjust to the medication. Our programme includes gradual dose escalation and ongoing support to help minimise and manage side effects safely.

Yes. Most patients are able to continue their normal work, exercise, and daily routines. We provide guidance on nutrition, activity levels, and lifestyle habits to support results while maintaining balance.

Yes. Progress is monitored through weekly check-ins via WhatsApp and regular InBody body composition scans every 4 to 6 weeks. This helps ensure healthy fat loss while preserving muscle mass.

Yes. GLP-1 weight loss programmes can often be combined with nutritional guidance, exercise programmes, and, where appropriate, aesthetic or body treatments. This is discussed and tailored during your consultation.

No. GLP-1 medications are not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding. A full medical screening is performed to ensure patient safety before starting the programme.

Avoiding alcohol during and after your Ozempic weight loss programme is recommended. Having alcohol one night won’t necessarily pause your weight loss altogether, but it can slow down your progress. Regular consumption of alcohol can accumulate its negative effects, making it harder to lose weight. Alcohol has many negative side effects, which can dramatically slow down your overall weight loss success. Here is why:

  • Metabolism: When you consume alcohol, your body prioritizes metabolizing the alcohol over other nutrients, slowing down the process of breaking down your regular food intake and increasing fat storage.

  • Appetite: Alcohol can increase your appetite and reduce your inhibitions, leading to overeating or making poor food choices.

  • Hormonal Effects: Alcohol can affect hormones that regulate hunger and metabolism. For instance, it can increase levels of cortisol, a stress hormone that can promote fat storage, especially around the abdominal area.

  • Sleep: Alcohol can disrupt your sleep patterns, leading to poor-quality sleep. Lack of adequate sleep can negatively affect weight loss by altering hormones that control hunger and appetite, leading to increased cravings and overeating.

Yes, absolutely. Our weight loss programmes using Ozempic and Wegovy (Semaglutide) or Mounjaro (Tirzepatide) can be done entirely virtually. After your virtual consultation with one of our doctors, we will courier your medication and provide you with a personalised treatment plan, support resources, and regular check-ins to monitor your progress. This makes it accessible no matter where you are in South Africa.
